Sophia Foley, 17, hails from Mansfield and will be entering her senior year at Mansfield High School this fall. Sophia suffered a knee injury while playing basketball for the Mansfield Hornets in late December, 2025. Following surgery in early 2026, she began the long rehab journey back and has worked closely with Elite Sports Physical Therapist, Ben Godin, PT, DPT, SCS over the past 7 months. During this time, Sophia has worked hard to restore her knee range-of-motion and improve her strength, explosive power, agility and balance in preparation for returning to the soccer field this fall.

Given Sophia’s impressive accomplishments during her high school career so far, the Hornets are excited to get her back out on the pitch! Not only was she selected as a Hockomock League All-Star in soccer last season, but she also earned All-Star honors during the ’24-’25 basketball season as well as being named Defensive Player of the Year that same year. When asked what qualities have helped her achieve this level of success, Sophia cites “determination, resilience, and hard work.”

Sophia has faced quite a bit of adversity over the past year as she’s spent countless hours in physical therapy to recover from ankle and knee injuries. Despite these setbacks, she’s learned that, “setbacks are out of our control – it’s how you come back from them” that matters most. When asked what advice she might share with younger athletes, she says, “Don’t let any setbacks stop your hard work, and every practice/rep matters.” As for her experience at Elite, she tells us she’s enjoyed her experience at Elite because of its “very positive environment and friendly staff.”

With her long and challenging rehab journey now in the rearview mirror, Sophia’s goal for the immediate future is a simple one: “a good and healthy soccer and basketball season.” We couldn’t agree more and her friends at Elite will be cheering her on every step of the way this season! Congratulations, Sophia, on earning our Elite Athlete of the Month honor, and here’s to an amazing and healthy soccer and basketball season ahead!
